Hey all - I’m stuck on a new AM5 build and I’m trying to figure out if this points to a bad motherboard vs PSU.

Parts: Ryzen 7 9800X3D,

ASUS TUF GAMING B650E-E WIFI,

Corsair RM1000x,

RTX 3080 (tested with and without),

Samsung 990 Pro 4TB,

32GB DDR5 (and I also tested a known-good DDR5 UDIMM from another PC).

Setup: board is on my desk (no case, and on the motherboard cardboard box), started by shorting PWR_SW pins. 24-pin ATX + CPU EPS 8-pin connected, CPU + cooler installed, one fan on CPU_FAN. Minimal config.

Behavior:

Standby power works (rear USB can charge phone)

With no RAM installed, board consistently shows yellow DRAM Q-LED (it knows that theres no memory in there)

With RAM installed (my kit or known-good DDR5), pressing power/shorting PWR_SW makes the PSU click but there are no LEDs, no fan twitch/spin, no Q-LEDs, nothing

Troubleshooting done: cleared CMOS multiple times, reseated CPU and inspected socket, tested single DIMM in A2/B2, tried known-good DDR5, updated BIOS via USB BIOS FlashBack (LED blinked then stopped)

Does this symptom pattern sound like a bad motherboard (memory power/init path), a PSU tripping, or something else I’m missing? Any last tests you’d recommend before I try to RMA the board or another component?

I have a PowerColor Red Devil AMD Radeon RX 6800XT. I have had a few minor problems over the years with it, but it has been mostly an amazing graphics card. However, within the last 6 months, my pc has started completely crashing while playing somewhat demanding games, or doing too much multi-tasking. This started with CS2 shortly after I started playing it this year, but has since happened on other random games such as It Takes Two and Black Ops 6.

Most of the time it reboots automatically within a couple of seconds. Sometimes it is partially powered and does nothing when I press the power button. I end up having to toggle off the power supply, then back on and it will let me power on the rest of the pc.

The reason I pose the question is the graphics card's Hot Spot Temp, is because I started monitoring my components with my AMD monitoring app and noticed that during those demanding games, the hotspot exceeds 100 degrees C. It gets close to 110 but at that point, I'm not paying attention to the application and my computer crashes. Another factor to potentially consider is that I bought this 1000W PSU from the states, but I currently reside in Japan. The PSU states it can handle 100W 50Hz power, but my friend is adamant I should replace the PSU. Please give me any advice!

Intel is changing sockets for the next gen desktop CPUs which means you will not be able to upgrade to new gens with a current gen motherboard. AM4 lasted 6 years ish, AM5 will give you plent of cheap upgrade options going forward, plus the X3D chips with the stacked/extra L3 cache are huge for 1080p and 1440p gaming.

I love the Inland Pro MK 67K keyboard, but I've had a lot of issues with bluetooth connectivity and latency (it has ALWAYS been laggy). I have an Macbook Pro 2021 M1. I've also had issues where direct wired connection doesn't work, and also the using RF receiver needing to be unplugged and replugged back in for it to be recognized.

Maybe I got a lemon?

Update: I exchanged keyboard for another one (same model) and I had the same issue. I continued troubleshooting and discovered that when I turn off the backlighting on the Inland Pro MK67K keyboard, the typing lag disappears completely. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Other bluetooth keyboards with backlighting have not had this issue at all.

I recently bought a pulsar x2h mouse from Microcenter, however, I am not satisfied with it and want to return it, but I have already switched out the stock feet for glass ones I also bought from Microcenter and the stock ones were damaged beyond repair. Will I still be able to return the mouse (or even the feet) despite the fact it would no longer have mouse feet?

Background: first PC build ever, I am trying to play a fair amount of games in 4k with over 60 fps. With the 4090 out of stock everywhere I have some time to wait so I wanted to see what other more experienced people thought. In general, my questions are what am I going overkill on and what am I not putting enough into with this build? This is solely for gaming, no streaming or at home work currently so only working with one monitor currently. Money is not a huge issue although I would not like to go up more than what I currently have. I apologize if there is a spot for this I submitted my build elsewhere but it got rejected. Attached are 2 screenshots of my build parts. The thermal cooling is the kryonaut grease (didn't really know what to pick). One question I do have is I picked the air cooled build for 149.00 as opposed to the water AIO build. Is this an issue? Thanks for all the future feedback!
