I have inherited a relatively primo gaming computer from about 2019. I need to change out the hard drive. While I get that installed, can Microcenter do some tweaks to optimize for my new uses; AutoCAD and ProTools and if so, what? I don’t have the specs to get into that level of detail now, I’m just asking if they do that kind of thing.

Hello I recently bought parts for a build, and I am having an issue activating the Windows license. At first I thought my son accidentally threw away the box, but we found it and the license key was not on it. I was able to find it going through the registry but it still gives an error. We also tried doing it through the elevated command prompt and got nothing. Any help would be really appreciated!

Long story short I have an old computer (still runs an i3 so you get an idea of how old) and instead of getting a new computer that runs Win11 (which I am avoiding like the plague) I settled for updating the old comp. It is a pre-built Alienware X51-R2 64-bit that still has all the original parts for reference. I plan to keep the Motherboard and install an i7-4790k processor (or i5-4460 bare min), a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (specifically one with a blower fan), 2 RAM DDR3 1600MHz (PC3-12800) Non-ECC UDIMM cards, and a LGA 1150 fan. So right now I just want pick the brains of people far more experienced at this to make sure I am getting the right parts, if I am not missing/overlooking any parts, and/or have better suggestions/recommendations BEFORE I spend the money on all of it. So any help is greatly appreciated and if you need additional information about the computer fell free to say so and I'll provide what I can. Thank you.

Hey everyone,

I have a PowerSpec G913 and I love it. However, I am missing the screw that keeps the top connected to the glass. I'm not sure if that also contributes to the front left, top plate not snapping down, but that's also happening. I'm just wondering if there is something I should buy to fix these two very minor issues (screw set, some sort of replacement holder for the top plate, or something)

Hello all,

I recently decided to upgrade my PC after building it ~13 years ago. This PC has served me well for many years. But the age is starting to show, as game requirements continue to climb. I started like anyone else would. Get online comparing prices and performance. It appears that memory prices are causing a huge price increase in pre-built gaming PC's. My current PC is a Asus sabertooth z87 with i5 4670k OC to 4.0Ghz 1080ti and 32G of DDR3 2400MHz.

After the sticker shock of memory. I noticed there is a little room for a cpu upgrade. The i7 4790k at 4.0 Ghz would work on my existing MoBo. This cpu cost roughly 80 dollars. Should buy me enough time to get past what ever is causing these outrageous price hikes.

I received the cpu in the mail and before I install it, I decided to give the entire PC a deep cleaning. This went smoothly and without issues. Removed the old 4670k to install 4790k. Now, I got power but nothing will come on. No monitor, no HD activity and a red light next to the memory sticks that I can't remember if it was on prior to this.

I know this is very limited information regarding my issues but I will post updates as I continue to work on it.

I bought a new gaming PC this week and for some reason it is taking a very long time downloading one game from my steam account. Once it completes downloading, there are graphical issues with the models in the game. It seems the launcher for the game is not connected to the publisher's website also. I tried uninstalling the game and steam and installing again but the same problem occurs. I tried also resetting Windows 11 (without cleaning data) but once i try to download the game once more the problem reappears. Should I do a full reset of Windows in this case? If i do, will I have to download the drivers for my motherboard, CPU, etc?

The request to complete a micro center survey starts with a requirement for a receipt reference number. Since the reference number is so long, that requirement is unintentionally discouraging completing a survey. It would be better to just ask for that last four digits of the reference number - like often done for social security numbers or charge card numbers. A computer should be able to figure out what the preceding digits of the reference number are.

So for my build I'm anticipating using the Lian Li O11 EVO Dynamic XL case with the MSI MEG x870e Godlike Motherboard (default position). I want to use the Gigabyte AORUS Xtreme Waterforce WB 5090 and vertically mounted it while also still using the M.2 Xpander-Z Slider that comes with the motherboard. I've made a diagram that leads me to believe I'd have the clearance in the case to do so until I remembered it's a dual chamber case which leads me to assume the 304mm width is for both chambers and therefore I cannot find the width of just the main chamber to still be sure I'd have the clearance based on where the vertical bracket mounts in the case (highest position) and where the bottom PCIe slot on the board falls in relevance to the bracket. Initially it seemed I'd have just enough space (or ample room depending on which slot of the bracket I set the GPU in) even if the bottom PCIe slot on the motherboard would be behind the GPU to still use the Xpander but now with all the research I've done and now lack thereof in finding the internal dimensions for the case to ttriple check everything again, I wondered if anyone here may know the answer.

TL:DR I need to know if I can vertically mount a wb 5090 on the X870E godlike motherboard while still having room to use the included Xpander M.2 storage card in the main chamber of the O11 EVO Dynamic XL

Microcenter has finally built a store within driving range of me….2.5 Hours instead of 5+ hours :)

I'm looking at potentially building a couple of new computers…One for myself and one for my college Freshman.

While I'm technically capable of assembling the systems, I'm leary because I'm 2.5 hours away and if any parts have issues….it will be a long round trip. Also I've encountered issues in the past where a MB may need a firmware update before it recognizes a newer CPU or faster ram. Without an older CPU or slower RAM laying around you are stuck.

So this has me leaning to paying for "Pro Assembly", but I'm curious if I am required to by the OS from MicroCenter or if I can supply the License Key. (I have a mix of Free and nearly free Keys through my Job, MSDN and through my Kids College.) If I supply a legal Key, then assembly will cost me $250. If I need to buy an OS for which I already have a License…It will cost me $400.

—

On a Related Question…There is a $350 option where they will do it with you. If you cannot supply the license normally but you can if they help you build…it would be an interesting twist. I'm thinking of using that option for my College Age Kid. They want to build it themselves since they have….But again it may be nice to have them do it with help there…due to long round trip issues if there are any problems.

This will be my first pc build and I'm getting conflicting results. I first chose the components that I wanted on Micro Center and nothing popped up about any physical constraints such as RAM clearance with CPU coolers. Then, I found out about PC parts picker and I chose the exact components and got a pop up saying some physical constraints are not checked, such as RAM clearance with CPU Coolers. Is this something to be concerned about? Here is what I chose- AMD Ryzen 7 9700X Granite Ridge AM5 CPU, Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX v2 ATX mobo, G.Skill Flare X5 series 32GB (2x 16GB) DDR5-6000 Ram, XFX-AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 210 16GB GPU, and Thermalright- Phantom Spirit 120 EVO CPU Cooler. I planned to use the Corsair Frame 4000D modular case as well. I'm not really sure if there would be any clearance issues and would really appreciate hearing others opinions before I decide on a build

This is the first PS computer I've purchased with a Gigabyte mobo, the last dozen or so have either been ASUS or MSI mainboards. I understand these are a customized BIOS, but I have never had any issue updating previously. However, the Gigabyte keeps giving me an OEM ID mismatch error. I've verified I am using the correct BIOS and even tried a couple of the older revisions as there have been 6 since the BIOS which is currently installed. (Including a security vulnerability patch, performance enhancements, and several AMD AGESA updates)

Anyone else had experience with this specific mobo and PS BIOS? Assuming it is the custom edited BIOS causing the ID mismatch, how can I get around this?

Thanks in advance.
