If you're having problems or errors trying to get Windows 11 updated, this guide will take you through a couple of tools you can use to troubleshoot issues with downloading and installing updates in Windows 11. These are useful if you are having issues with updates failing, or if you are behind on Windows 11 updates but your system is not automatically detecting the most current updates available.
Here are some options to try to troubleshoot Windows 11 update issues:
Run the Built-In Troubleshooter in Windows 11
First, Right-click the Start button, typically found at the bottom of the screen, and click on Settings.
Next, System should already be selected, if it is not, click on System. Then click on Troubleshoot.
Click on Other Troubleshooters.
Click on Run next to Windows Update.
Follow the on-screen prompts for the Update troubleshooter for it to complete the troubleshooting process.
Run the System File Checker to Scan and Attempt to Automatically Repair Corrupted Windows Files
Click your search bar and type CMD. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator
Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit enter
This may take some time to complete.
Type sfc /scannow and hit enter.
Do not close this Command Prompt window until the scan verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.
Once completed, restart your computer and try to update again.
