Today, we will walk you through on how to update your drivers for your AMD video card on a Windows 10 or 11 system. Most game companies and games will recommend you have the latest drivers installed for your video card and you can take care of these driver updates through the AMD Adrenalin software.
If you already have AMD Adrenalin installed, you can skip ahead to later in the guide where we will check for updates directly in the software. Otherwise, we will start by installing the software.
First, If you do not have the software already installed on your computer, you can go to www.amd.com/drivers and select Download Windows Drivers.
It will automatically start the download and once the download is done, we’ll want to open it up the file it downloads and click on Yes on the User Account Control window to begin the install process.
Once the program runs, we’ll want to click on Install.
A new window will appear as it will do a compatibility check to verify you do have an AMD graphics card installed.
Once the compatibility check is done, you’ll see your AMD video card model listed here, as well as the recommended path for installation which will be to install the Adrenalin software.
You can click on additional options to select a minimal install, or just the video card driver by selecting “driver only”, for our example we’ll go ahead and do the full recommended install. Then we will click on Next to continue with the install.
If you have an AMD processor in your system, you may get prompted for additional AMD tools and drivers for other AMD components. You can choose to skip or install these.
If you don’t have an AMD processor and just an AMD video card in your computer, the download of the latest version of Adrenalin and the video card drivers will begin.
The software will work through the download/install and the program will show you the progress as it goes on. It is important to note your monitors may turn black temporarily during this installation and not to worry, this is completely normal – it's just part of the update process!
Once the installation is complete, we’ll see an installation complete window and a prompt to Restart, so we’ll want to go ahead and click on Restart to finish the installation.
Once the computer has restarted, or if you already have AMD Adrenalin installed and you're starting from this step, open up the newly installed AMD Adrenalin software. You can click on the Start or Search button on your taskbar, usually found at the bottom of the screen, then begin typing "AMD" and you should see “AMD Software Adrenalin Edition”, click on it to Open it.
If this is your first time using this software, we can complete the quick setup or choose to skip it to get right into the main software.
Verify the Home tab is the current tab selected in the AMD Software.
Next, we can verify our driver status under “Driver & Software” at the top right of the Home screen, and you can click on Check for Updates at any time to verify you have the latest AMD drivers installed to your PC.
Another thing we can do here is click on the small arrow next to Drivers & Software, and here you can set up additional options such as automatically checking for updates, and automatically downloading the latest version of drivers & software as soon as AMD has an update.
And that’s all there is to it – that’s how you can update your AMD video card drivers through AMD Adrenalin!
