A noticeable design choice in Windows 11 is the relocation of the Start button and the taskbar icons to the center of the screen in place by default. While this new centered layout offers a modern look, some users may prefer the traditional left-aligned position for familiarity or ease of use. Fortunately, Windows 11 allows you to move the Start button back to its classic spot with just a few clicks. In this article we'll walk you through the steps to reposition the Start button.
Here is how to do this:
Right-click on the Start button, typically found at the bottom of the screen, then click on Settings.
In the Settings menu, on the left side of the screen, click on Personalization.
Next, from within the Personalization menu, scroll down and click on Taskbar.
On this page, click on Taskbar behaviors.
Here, you'll see a setting labeled Taskbar alignment with a dropdown menu beside it.
Click on the dropdown and click on Left to move the Start button, along with the other taskbar icons, to the left side of the screen. As soon as you make this selection, the change will take effect, repositioning the Start button to the left, just like in previous versions of Windows.
With the new alignment in place, you can now close the Settings window, and your taskbar will remain customized to your preference, and you may go back to change it at any time by following the same steps.
