Here are some of the most commonly received questions we get about Windows 10 S Mode at Micro Center:
Q: What is Windows 10 S Mode?
A: To increase security and performance, Windows 10 S mode only runs and allows apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to download and install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode. There's no charge to switch out the PC out of S mode, but you won't be able to turn it back on.
Q: How do I view what apps can be installed in Windows 10 S Mode?
A: Those can be viewed directly in the Microsoft Store. To get to the Store, click the Start button, type Microsoft Store, then select it in the list of results to open the Store.
Q: Can I use another anti-virus with Windows 10 S Mode?
A: There are many antivirus programs available through the Microsoft Store which can be installed in S Mode.
Q: How do I switch out of Windows 10 S Mode?
A: On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings, then select Update & Security then select Activation. Find the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, then select the Go to the Store link. On the new page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button to switch out.
