Store Exchanged to GC - Return to Original Payment Method

Hi - I recently exchanged a laptop due to defective keyboard. My initial purchase, I used my MC charge card and financed it. When I exchanged it, instead of doing an even exchange for the new laptop, the store returned my purchase to a gift card and then used that to rebuy the new laptop. If I decide to return the item, am I able to refund it back to my original payment method (MC Charge Card) or am I stuck with refunding to a gift card?
