Linus Tech Tips seems to indicate that most Windows laptops now have S0 ("Windows Modern Standby", always on) Sleep Mode as the default and can't change to S3, so laptop sleep will likely run the battery to 0% and leave it feeling hot in your backpack (processor and network connections still running in S0 Sleep).
