Optical to RCA conversion
My mom bought a new TV that doesn't have RCA audio output, only optical. I'm pretty sure there isn't a way to convert the signal but she saw items on Amazon that say they'll do what she wants. I doubt their claims and quality. Anyone have some pro input?

I use Digital Optical to Analog (DAC) often, and they will essentially give you line level audio at unity. This means what you are inputting it to will have to provide the variable audio (volume up and volume down) the TV remote will not do that here. But they work fine.

You can use a DAC adapter like this: https://www.microcenter.com/product/458931/qvs-toslink-digital-s-pdif-to-stereo-analog-rca-audio-converter
