How many case fans are needed?

Options

I plan on buying the 9700X combo with ram and motherboard. I am also looking at the Thermaltake Assassin 120 SE with 2 fans. I'm going to build in a Fractal Design Define C case which comes with one fan in front for intake and one in back for output. I plan to use my 970 graphics card for now, but plan to upgrade. Will the two fans work for now or do I need to add case fans now as I build the system?

Thanks,

Don

  • More case fans to some degree is better than too few, excepting overdoing the RGB effect. Removal for storage in a closet of any case/chassis included dust filter panels does much for better cooling, if the case is reasonable looking when without those dust filter panels. This is very effective especially for the top of chassis, just based on "heat rises" fundamentals. Keeping it to less or original fan count can work. BIOS limiting processors to maximum speed at standardized specification, by ferreting through the bevy of so many overclock affecting options, can then lead to cooler core temperatures, and the opportunity to slow the fans for less noise at desk workstation. This may feasibly make for a longer lasting system, somewhat defiant of 3-year Mohr's law. Enjoy building your system, or if you've already completed it, post a photo! — Patrick
