I want it to be fast and have a good amount of memory like 8gb ram... I'm 40 and really got lost along time ago on this stuff! I just want something other than my iphone to do whatever s needed! Around or under $300ish....

You'd probably want to just go ahead and get a $100ish chromebook with 4gb ram. You are not going to run into any good windows laptops, probably just a old dual core i3 and definitely no 8gb ram.

If you want a decent windows laptop you need to increase the budget to ~$500, anything under that would better off to go with a chromebook------you can still browse chrome, watch videos and do some of researches.
