Hello all,
I recently purchased a prebuilt computer from microcenter. I also purchased a headset so I can use it for games. However, the headset has been nothing but issues. I returned my original headset since the manufacturer told me that it was broken. I purchased a new headset, only to find out that my same issue is happening. The issue that is occurring is that I hear audio just fine, but my mic doesn't seem to work. I've adjusted settings and just cannot seem to get the mic to work. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction on what I need to do. Any help is appreciated.
Greetings. What brand and model of headset are you using? What is the brand and model of computer you have?
I have a powerspec g708 computer and I'm using is a hyperx cloud core
Is it a single cord coming out of the headset? If so, you would need to use a splitter that plugs the 3.5mm connector into both the audio and microphone ports on your PC. Some of those headsets include this splitter, if not something such as https://www.microcenter.com/product/455894/qvs-35mm-female-to-dual-35mm-male-speaker-microphone-headset-splitter-6-in-black would be needed.
Is the mic working on other devices? I would also ensure any mic mute slider/button has not been pressed on the headset.
You may need to go into these specific sound settings. Go to search, type control panel, open the control panel app, click to hardware and sound, click sound, click the record tab, you should see a list of devices for mic, make sure your current device is set to be the default device used as the mic. I have the same headset, best deal on the market in every category.
I forgot, If you have a motherboard with the Realtec premium driver its far better to plug into the rear 3.5mm jacks with the splitter wire than using the USB 7.1. Those rear jacks have more DB power than both the USB and front jacks and you have all the sound equalizer and mic boost features in Win 10 Realtec. Helps tons getting more beef from the sometimes thin mic.
Good Luck
