AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Build Guide: The Ultimate Gaming Processor
Written by Sean Mekinda
AMD's new "Ultimate Gaming Processor," the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, has arrived, and we've got a build guide for you, as well as benchmarks and breakdowns!
It's AMD's Ultimate Gaming Processor, so of course, we put together the Ultimate Gaming PC for it to really shine!
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Vermeer 3.4GHz 8-Core AM4 Boxed Processor
Thanks to AMD's brand new 3D V-Cache technology, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D delivers an additional 5% performance boost to 1080p gaming, keeping you ahead of your opponents! If you're looking for more reasons to make this the heart of your new build, check out our full breakdown and benchmarks over here.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D doesn't come with a cooler, so you're going to want to pick one up. We'd recommend an AIO to really get the most of the CPU - something like the Lian Li Galahad would work great!
Motherboard: ASUS X570-Pro TUF Gaming WiFi AMD AM4 ATX Motherboard
You'll obviously need a motherboard that supports AM4, but you also want a motherboard that really makes use of the 5800X3D. The ASUS X570-Pro supports all the major features of the 5800X3D, like DDR4 support, PCIe 4.0 slots, and M.2 capabilities. Plus, built-in WiFi means you won't be scrambling for an adaptor when you build your new rig!
Graphics Card: ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming Overclocked Triple-Fan 16GB GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 Graphics Card
What would a gaming CPU be without a gaming GPU? The ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is the perfect companion for the 5800X3D, delivering stellar performance all the way up to 4K. Max out your frames and settings for gorgeous, smooth gameplay!
16 gigs of RAM is recommended as a starting point for new builds. But it's just a starting point, which is why we're springing for two 16GB sticks, more than enough to stream, game, and browse the internet - all at the same time. But if you're still worried, you can always double that to 64 gigs with the remaining DIMM slots!
Hard Drive: Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB M.2 NVMe Interface PCIe 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND 3 bit MLC Technology (MZ-V7S2T0B/AM) & 2TB SSD SATA 3.0 6 GBps 2.5 Inch 7mm 3D QLC NAND Internal Solid State Drive
Traditional HDDs are great as secondary drives, but you should really be using M.2 NVMe drives as your OS drive. And if you get a big enough one - like this 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus - you can even boot games in record time off it. And if you want to skip the HDD altogether, modern 2.5" SSDs are fantastic alternatives.
Power Supply: Corsair HX1000 1000 Watt 80 Plus Platinum ATX Fully Modular Power Supply
Modern PC components require some big power supplies, especially if you want to future-proof your PC for upgrades. Corsair's 1000W fully-modular HX1000 will make sure that you're drawing every bit of power your Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 6800 XT need all while keeping unnecessary cables out of your case.
Case: Fractal Design Torrent Tempered Glass ATX Mid-Tower Computer Case - White
The Fractal Design Torrent case is a well-designed, absolutely stunning case with great build options and fantastic airflow. And the best part is: you can win one right now to get a head start on your AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D build!

I thought you said "Ultimate", why use a 6800xt then? Minimum of 3090ti for "ultimate".. Everything else won't really matter especially for 4k+ gaming.
