NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti - The 1440p Powerhouse Breakdown and Benchmarks
Written by Sean Mekinda
The newest card in NVIDIA's 40 Series lineup has arrived: The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The 4070 Ti is positioned to dominate 1440p gaming with the goal of maxing out monitor capabilities with high, high FPS at gorgeous 2K resolutions. But what exactly does the card offer? We've got a breakdown and benchmarks below, so you know exactly how much your mind is going to be blown.
What's new with the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti?
Hardware:
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, like all of the 40 Series, is built off of NVIDIA's new Ada Lovelace Architecture and delivers up to a 3x speed boost over last generation's GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. That Ada Lovelace hardware means the 4070 Ti runs on the latest streaming multiprocessors, fourth-generation Tensor Cores, and Third-Generation Ray Tracing Cores. Together, they offer up to 2x the performance and power efficiency, 4x the performance with DLSS 3, and 2x the ray tracing capabilities, all at a fraction of the power consumption of the 3080. Whether you're gaming or hard at work making your next digital masterpiece, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has the hardware to help.
DLSS 3:
DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, continues to grow and improve with each update. If you're unfamiliar, DLSS utilizes AI to examine lower-resolution frames and then seamlessly upscale them to 1440p (and beyond!) without the intensive stress of actually rendering full games at these high-quality resolutions. Basically, you'll be able to get better-looking games at higher refresh rates than what the stock cards without DLSS would allow, like 60+ FPS on Cyberpunk 2077 at high resolutions!
Ray Tracing:
Ray tracing is the almost-invisible secret that makes modern games look as good as they do, and it's a major focus for NVIDIA. Ray tracing takes the standard lighting of games and looks to elevate it to that of real life. It means that when you look through a tree, you can see individual beams of light, rather than just a big block of lighting. When it's on, it feels natural and helps bring games that much closer to reality. NVIDIA's third generation of RT Cores helps to elevate ray tracing yet again, with a new Opacity Micromap Engine and a new Displaced Micro-Mesh Engine, allowing for more complex locations, like fences and foliage, to be ray traced faster than ever before, so your immersion won't be broken when you wonder why the sunlight isn't dancing through the tree leaves like in real life.

Benchmarks:
3DMark (v2.25.8056):
3DMark's GPU tests push graphics cards to their limits. Time Spy uses DirectX12 to really test every bit of power and Time Spy Extreme takes it even further with more graphically intense processes. Port Royal is 3DMark's ray tracing test, designed for real-time ray tracing. The 4070 Ti put out some incredibly high numbers, showcasing just how much this card is capable of, especially when it comes to ray tracing. 3DMark reported expected Battlefield V 1440p Ultra FPS of over 150 for all three tests we ran!
PassMark (v10.2):
Similar to 3DMark, PassMark is designed to push GPUs to their limits. However, unlink 3DMark, PassMark tests both 2D and 3D graphics operations, all the way from DirectX9 to DirectX12 in 4K. The 4070 Ti blows away past-generation NVIDIA cards and is proving itself to be a powerful, powerful card.
UNIGINE Superposition (v1.1):
Superposition is a staple benchmark, pushing cards for both performance and stability with intense ray tracing. We put the Radeon RX 7900 XTX through the three tests designed to showcase the card in a variety of use cases: 1080P Medium, 1080P Extreme, and 4K Optimized. With an average FPS of 127.34 for 4K gaming, NVIDIA didn't just release a stellar 1440p card, they released a great 4K card too!

Can't wait to see how they stack up in the long run! The xx70ti cards have always been a favorite of mine, great choice for newer gamers not looking to spend a crazy amount on the top-of-the line cards while maintaining great performance and longevity.

If I didn't have to use Blender on my computer, this would be the card that I get for my gaming-only setup. I love the value that this card offers in the 40 series lineup.
