Atari Fight stick button not working in RetroArch mame cores

RPi4 running ES and Pegasus frontend. Using Atari dual Controller.

This affects Mame games but not FBA, Neo Geo, or CPS games.

When I launch a mame game, I can use the controller in menu, in RetroArch menu, but not on the menu in the photo because the xyab buttons do not work.

I have tried to remap in RetroArch and confirm that the buttons are correct. save my remap and try to

play the game but non of the buttons will work. I can quit (start+select) but cannot add coin, start in game,

or use abxy.

Looking for help to troubleshoot this issue.

RetroArch has a pretty much endless wiki for this kind of stuff. Gotta do some manual tweaking most likely. https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/

Thanks. I have gone through the wikis and forums. Still having issues.
