RAM upgrade - add or replace?

Looking to buy 2 RAM sticks. I think my Z-170 Gaming 5 motherboard allows for four RAM sticks and I already have two in there that add up to 16 GB. If possible, can I add two sticks of 16 GB so that I would have a total of 32, or if my motherboard only accepts two sticks, should I replace the old ones with two sticks of 32 GB?

Both methods are acceptable. I'd recommend replacing the two existing ones with a better set.
