We've received reports from some users that their PowerSpec G516 does not wake from sleep using certain monitor configurations. While we have not been able to replicate this in our lab, we have found plenty of reports online that seem to point towards a GPU driver issue on the Radeon Adrenaline drivers from version 23 and higher. The issue does not occur on the previous version 22 drivers. Unfortunately, these drivers are older and are missing important performance optimizations for new games.

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1

Fixed Issues

  • Improvements to high idle power when using select dual monitor display setups with mixed resolutions and high refresh rate displays (such as 1440p @ 120/144Hz + 1080p @ 120/144Hz or 2160p @ 120/144Hz + 1080p @ 120/144Hz) on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Intermittent micro-stuttering may be experienced when running Chromium-based browsers on systems that pair a Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPU with a secondary display connected to an AMD Ryzen™ 7000 series processor.
  • Stars may intermittently fail to appear while playing Crysis Remastered.
  • Certain textures may become invisible while playing Final Fantasy X HD Remaster on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Intermittent corruption may be observed on the racetrack while playing EA Sports WRC.
  • Intermittent stutter while playing Overwatch 2 on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 6900 XTX.

We are working closely with AMD to address this issue with a driver update. The plan is to get a driver to address the issue and push it out to all PowerSpec G516 customers through Windows Update automatically. We also plan to provide a link to that driver in this thread once available. For now, we would recommend the following;

For users that do not require the sleep functionality:

  1. Right click your Windows icon on the task bar and select "Settings".
  2. Select "System".
  3. Select "Power & Sleep".
  4. Change the dropdown under Sleep to "Never".

This will prevent the system from sleeping. You will need to power your system down when you are not using it.

For users that require the sleep functionality and do not need modern gaming optimizations:

  1. Download & Run the AMD Driver Uninstall Tool: https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/amdcleanuputility.exe (This will remove all installed AMD GPU drivers)
  2. Download the following AMD graphics driver: https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-22.11.2-win10-win11-dec8.exe (This is the newest driver without the sleep issue).

For users who want to run the latest driver without disabling sleep:

  1. Download the latest driver from https://www.amd.com/en/support
  2. Run our DisableULPS tool.
  3. Click Yes to allow the program to run.
  4. The program will open in a terminal window and prompt you to press a key and restart the PC. Follow these instructions.

NOTE: This tool was written and tested only on our G516 and has not been tested on any other systems. We assume no liability for OS corruption that could potentially result from running this tool other systems.

Keep in mind if you update the driver ULPS will be enabled. Run the tool again after doing so if issues persist.
