Getting a red LED on MSI Tomahawk Z790

Not likely. Red is CPU, if you're just seeing that and it sits there, then it's failing to initialize the CPU which is the first step of POST. Focus on that. Check that the 8 pin CPU isn't damaged. Check the socket for bent pins.

Which CPU? If it is 14th Gen, you may need to do a bios update. Good news is you can do that update without having to use an older CPU. It has Bios flashback.
Copy Bios to FAT32 formatted USB, rename the file to MSI.ROM, plug into the BIOS update port and press the BIOS flash button for a couple seconds, an LED will flash the back of the board and likely your fans may kick on, it'll update the bios, and you may be able to POST after that.
