Memory failing?

I have the symptons of a card/stick failing and well i'm only showing 8gb of 16gb. I took them out and swapped them still only showing 8gb. I haven't taken one out and tried to fire it up yet to see which one is fired (if that will even work).. I ran Windows check and Intell's and they both only show 8gb.... Help.. I don't even know enough to be dangerous LOL but I built/assembled this one 10 years back...

    Greetings,

I'd start by trying each of your sticks of RAM one at a time in each available motherboard slot for RAM, that would help you determine if you have perhaps a bad stick of RAM or bad slot.

As for determining what RAM you can use, it would vary by your motherboard model, or you can match what RAM is already in the system, typically there are stickers on the RAM itself that would show what type and speed of RAM it would be for.
