How to we get a new monitor successfully hooked up to a laptop
HI! We just purchased a new monitor (ASUS) to hook up to my son's gaming laptop. We can't get the computer to recognize it. We are using the USB connection.

You don't want to do that. Monitors may have a USB connection as a passthrough for USB ports on the monitors, but that's not video. The only monitors that run on USB are some of the portable ones, but you're running an external GPU basically, gaming performance would be abysmal.
What video outputs does the laptop have?
