I have a powerspec G227 with no video signal
I have a powerspec G227. I am getting no signal from either the motherboard or the GPU. I can connect the monitor to another computer and I get a signal. What could be wrong?

No, not if they both work in the second slot, sounds more like a board issue.

The challenge is going to be figuring out if it's not POST or no video. Turn it on and watch/listen carefully. Do the CPU fans slow down after 10 or so seconds? Do the GPU fans stop spinning?
-
I removed the video card so there are no GPU fans. The CPU fan does not slow down.

Probably a no POST. Test the RAM sticks one at a time to start.

I did try them one at a time. I did get post but the screen still had rows of purple lines. I was also able to get that trying both sticks in the second slot. If I put either one in any other slot it was no post. Am I dealing with 2 bad ram sticks?

After playing with it for a bit I have discovered these sticks have to be installed correctly. One end needs to be locked before the other end. Sorry but as I was moving them around I noticed that sometimes they would work and sometimes they wouldn't. I tried both sticks in each slot using the method of locking one end first and they both worked in each slot. I liked the old slots where both ends had levers that locked. Also, they both have columns of purple lines running when it posts. Would it be the ram sticks or would it still be the board?

Should I repost this since I said the question was answered?

Are the purple lines visible with the IGP, your dedicated GPU or both?
-
Both.

Should I replace the ram sticks?

Test one at a time and see if the issue goes away. What kind of cable are you connected to the monitor with? HDMI, DP? Any adapters?
-
I have tried HDMI and VGA and no change. No adaptors. I have also tried one stick at a time with no change. I know the cables are good because I can hook the monitor to my computer and it works fine.

Can you post a picture?

A picture of what?
-
I hope that is the picture you wanted.

@Georgew Is the pattern you're seeing stable, or is it flickering? Does it change? It almost looks like a panel to me, but you ruled that out by testing another PC. I can't believe the dGPU and IGP could be have the same failure.
-
It is stable. I could order the ram and try that.
-
You can try it, but looks more like GPU output to me.
-
I will let you know. Thank you for your help.
-
I just got the new ram sticks. Same thing.
-
Can you hook it to another monitor or TV?
-
Yes. Same thing.
-
And it's still the same on the IGP and dGPU?
-
Yes.

I have been looking for the motherboard. Microcenter does have one or one that is compatible. I did find one but have to look into the company a little more. I can call them tomorrow.

Might be wise to stop by the store. I'd like to replicate the issue in another environment.

This is my daughters computer. She lives in Canton Ohio. She brought it to me because of this problem. The only thing I have of hers it the tower.
-
It's strange to have a graphical output issue that isn't GPU related. Could you do like a short video of what the screen does? Maybe we could run a tool like furmark or MSI Kombustor and see if it gets worse.
-
If it is GPU does that not mean I would have to replace the motherboard?
