Can't return open box item.

I reserved an "open box" Samsung 2 TB 990 Pro NVMe drive for in-store pick up at the Houston location this past weekend. I picked it up from the Internet Pick up area of the store and I was handed what looked to be a new drive with no yellow open box label. I didn't think too much of it, probably a customer return or something. I brought it home and opened it up. I changed my mind and wanted to get something else, so I brought it in to exchange for store credit yesterday. They told me that the item didn't match the receipt since it wasn't labeled an open box, this was the receipt that they had handed me after I completed the transaction. I told them multiple times that this is what they gave me, I showed them the pick up reservation I had made, they checked that the serial number matched the unit, but could not refund (or give me store credit) without a manager's approval since the receipt didn't match the return. I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong or trying to cheat the store. I've purchased at that store for years, before they were even at that location, even through I live out of the Houston area. Just really disappointed and frustrated with this experience and I'm stuck with an item I can't return.
