New build problems 7950x3d on Asus x670e, super slow performance

Been building PC’s for many years but having trouble with this one. Got from MC an Asus x670e tuf gaming (bios upgraded to current, default settings), 32GB g-skill ram, AMD 7950x3d, and 1TB m.2. All together and running, but so very slow. Win11 install took couple of hours, with only the 1TB m.2 installed (no other drives) installing from USB3 thumb drive. Installed the basic drivers using armory crate, then ran Passmark Benchmark 11.1.

I’m getting a CPU Mark of 7075. Others running the same CPU on the same motherboard are getting a CPU Mark of 60721!!! Almost 10xdifference? Something very unhappy about this build, any ideas? I really don’t want to return everything if it’s just a setting somewhere.

Suggest running HWINFO64 during the test. Compare your effects clocks, temps and voltages.

I installed Ryzen Master, and on one screen it seemed to suggest that memory timing was ‘off’. Not sure I understand completely, but I reset the timings and this happened…

this is where the performance should be!  Odd question I know, but it seems strange that it sorted itself out, anybody know what happened?
