How to create secure network using hotel wifi

We have a condo in a hotel community. The hotel has free wifi for all guests on the property. I do not have an ethernet port, router or modem in our unit nor do I have access to the network's router. Is there a way to connect to the "guest" network wirelessly and create my own secure network? If so, what type of hardware would I need? I know there are routers, extenders, mesh systems, etc., but I'm not sure which (if any) will work without access to the main router. Thanks in advance.

Hi! In this particular situation I'd recommend reaching out to the hotel management to see if there is another network you can use. As you are not the administrator or owner of the network it would be hard to do much outside of just connecting to it.

Thanks, but I did that already and they don't have another network I can use. I was hoping I could piggy back off the existing open network and create my own password-protected one. I just don't know what hardware I would need to do that.

You're best off running a VPN or perhaps a wireless router that can support a dedicated VPN firmware. That way at least you have some protection. - I have used Express VPN over a dedicated router for a few years and have had little issue when I travel.

VPN would definitely be needed to stay protected for sure. Have you looked into mobile spots at all by chance? There are monthly plans that are offered by your service provider that can help.
