Screen blacks out
I have a issue with my computer blacking out on the screen. It recently just happened around the middle of January and I'm wondering what to do about it. It's not often, but is a little concerning being that I just got this computer in August '24
I'm a bit on the basic spectrum when it comes to the inside of a computer. I'm thinking my RTX 4070 Super may have something to do with it, since it's the video but I'm not sure.

Which model? Does the video go out then come back or do you have to restart the PC?
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW I have the G448 model. I have to restart it manually. I have let it sit for 15 minutes before but afterwards I just restarted it manually.

Need to figure out if the system freezes or you just lose video. Next time it happens do this:
- Toggle caps or num lock on the keyboard. See if the light responds.
- Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI/DP cable.
Let me know what you find out.

@PowerSpec_MikeW so I've done this before you've asked. When I did that it seems like nothing happens. I've also done the video refresh combo (ctrl+win+shift+b) and you can hear the sound of the refresh, but nothing happens. Screen stays black. I've had music play and music came out but no video.
-
At least isolates it down a bit, the system isn't crashing or freezing. Is there anything in event viewer at the time this happens?
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW most of the time it's just sitting with a blank desktop. Sometimes I have my music program running and idling when it happens, but as long as I'm using it, it doesn't happen.
-
So is it only happening when the display goes to sleep? Check Event Viewer - Custom Views - Administrative Events. I'd like to see events at the time of the most recent one.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW wow never knew about this…how can I send it to you? I have events all the way back to March, before I even received this computer.
-
There's going to be a lot in there that are warnings, but aren't of any consequence. It'll even retain events from our master image creation. Just screenshot what happened at that time, right before the Kernel-Power event. That would of been when you turned it off and let it reboot.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW here are 3 times that it happened recently where I had to force the shut down. Is this what you're looking for?
-
Yep. What's the application hang in the second one?
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW seems like it was the xbox application.
-
Doesn't look consequential. Have you tried another monitor or monitor cable? Could you swap from HDMI to DisplayPort as an example?
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW I have not. Since the 18th I've left the computer on for at least an hour doing nothing and nothing has happened. I changed the plan to 'Ultimate Performance' and it hasn't had a blackout since. Though it seemed like the problem has subsided, could the change from DP to HDMI have solved that problem? And why would it do that in the first place? Drivers maybe?
-
Drivers are a possibility with a sleep issue. You could scrub it with DDU and install the latest. The solution makes sense, since you're not letting it sleep anymore.
-
@PowerSpec_MikeW I just did a driver update from Nvidia that had this so maybe that helped out more than anything. Thanks again for your help. Also learned a lot. 😁
