Why the incompetence?

I bought the parts for a build and decided I didn’t want the headache of building it because although not much has changed since my last build everything also changed. So I paid for microcenter to build it.

They didn’t. 

They “couldn’t find” it until a manager went back and did find it. Then promised “hours” to build it but I said I’ll just build it some of us actually don’t enjoy standing around waiting. 

Well wouldn’t ya know it, vram light. So I take it back in and they charge me $139 to LOOK AT IT. Just look. 

It’s the motherboard. Fine you fix it then. This is when I found out that $139 wasn’t also the repair. That’s another $99.

Almost 2 weeks later.. TWO WEEKS. I am slow but even I make these professionals look like a snail. I finally get it back. I’m doing a bit of work on the house so I don’t hook it up right away. 

Plug it in last night after having it for about 4 or 5 days. SAME PROBLEM. 

So I ask again MicroCenter.

I'd personally ask customer service for a refund. I'm also lucky enough to have the time and the knowledge to do it myself so usually I never have to talk to their staff. I will say that the staff in my city seems fairly knowledgeable (enough for me to be impressed and make a mental note of it) so maybe it's a regional thing? I mean obviously they're not MCSEs or CCNEs but they can usually put parts together and have it function.

I hope you have better luck in the future, but maybe rely on a friend's kid to do it next time. On the plus side they'll probably do it for $40 and a case of beer! (assuming they're old enough to drink, failing that maybe a gift card?)
