Ongoing Capture Card and Audio Issues – Elgato 4K Not Detected, Sonar GG Crashing Windows

Options

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone here can help me make sense of the issues I'm experiencing.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9700X
  • RAM: 32GB
  • Motherboard: MSI Tomahawk
  • GPU: RTX 5080
  • OS: Fresh Windows install with a brand new activation key
  • Internet Security: Bitdefender Internet Security

I recently bought a brand-new Elgato 4K capture card after my previous one died. Less than 24 hours in, the drivers refused to install. I kept getting "no device detected" errors, even after multiple reinstallations of drivers and software. I managed to get it temporarily working just long enough to stream Mario Kart—but it failed again shortly after.

I've been in constant communication with Elgato support, but so far, they haven't been able to figure out a solution.

Additional complications:

  • Sonar GG causes my system to crash with a Windows host error, completely taking down my audio system. When Sonar GG isn't running, everything works fine.
  • I discovered my Creative Tool flash drive (used for some installations) had somehow become corrupted, which I’ve now replaced.
  • As a workaround, I just purchased an AVerMedia capture card to see if it will function correctly on this setup, given that Elgato refuses to.

This entire ordeal has been frustrating—especially since I'm working with a powerful rig and clean Windows install. If anyone has experienced similar driver conflicts, issues with Bitdefender affecting installs, or Sonar GG crashing audio systems, I’d really appreciate your insight.

Thanks in advance!
