Powerspec G717: AIO Cooling control from Linux
in PowerSpec
Hello:
Has anyone installed Ubuntu linux on a G717? It looks physically like the fans are moving but I smell burning when using Linux so I stopped doing it. I thought it was controlled from the motherboard.

It is. The OS has no impact unless you're installing software to alter the fan behavior.

The motherboard seems to require support from Microsoft Windows to set fan speeds. when I run with Linux that control is not being provided

It doesn't, unless something in the OS is overriding fan control. You check the Hardware Monitor tool in the BIOS and play with the curves.
