Is G522 affected by problem with recent windows 11 update KB5063878?

Hi Mike,

I have been very happy with my G522 purchased back in Feb.

I have taken note of the recently reported problem with the Aug Windows 11 update,

KB5063878, causing severe SSD issues. I wonder if my G522 has any components that have been associated with this

KB5063878 problem. For example I have read that it may impact Phison drive controllers (does my PC use Phison?)

I wonder if an issue I had on Aug 18 may have been related to this. On that night, when I clicked to shutdown the PC, the screen never left the windows GUI. It would simply not execute a shutdown. I then tried to restart, with the same problem occurring. I eventually had to do a hard shutdown. The next morning, it booted up OK, but as a precaution I chose to run DISM.exe and sfc. The sfc found corrupt files and repaired them successfully.

I have not seen any problems since that time.

Please note that earlier on Aug 18, I was transferring a bunch of files from a Compact card reader to my PC. I have seen reports of the update problem being triggered by a high volume of disk writes, so I wonder if my issue was possibly related.

I would appreciate your input on this concern.

No, it's a WD drive with a WD controller. There was an issue a while ago with the WD drive and 24H2, but we pushed a firmware update automatically to correct it.

Hi Mike,

I saw your earlier post, in Feb I believe re the firmware update for 24H2 issue. In that post, all the WD drives you listed were for 2 TB. My P.C. has a 1 TB drive.

I have the dashboard app (from Sandisk / WD) installed, and I do note that there is a firmware update available for my 1 TB WD. Should I install it??

That's correct, only 2TB models were affected. Up to you, but I wouldn't touch the firmware unless I was addressing a known issue.
