New workstation extremely unstable

Greetings!

I have a new computer setup at home. My computer is a Lenovo Legion Pro 5i laptop. It is connected to a docking station. Also connected to the docking station are a monitor (currently just one), keyboard, mouse, and hard drive. The hard drive is a WD Red in a basic enclosure, which is in turn connected to the docking station by USB 3. The docking station is this one (https://www.microcenter.com/product/660533/j5create-usb-type-c-dual-hdmi-docking-station-(10-in-1).

My issue is that this arrangement seems extremely unstable. I was attempting to play Battletech, which runs in full-screen mode. Also running was a Backblaze backup. At seemingly random intervals and for no discernible reason, I'd be kicked from the game onto my desktop. Sometimes I'd see the Backblaze control panel. Sometimes Windows Explorer would be putting up windows I never asked for. Once or twice, the game would be closed down completely, but usually I could click back into it.

This arrangement is not sustainable. Interrupting a game is an annoyance, but interrupting something else (family history research, writing projects, etc.) could be quite serious. My old desktop would have handled all this smoothly, so I'm not sure what's going on here. If the hive mind has any advice, my ears are wide open.

Later,

Erik
