New G913 - AIO Cooler seems to be making 2 annoying noises.
Hello - picked up a G913 last week and yesterday noticed that a sort of periodic humming noise was coming from the case. The top of the case (where the AIO fans are) has a definite vibration in sync with the noise. After opening it up (which did not reduce the noise at all) and using my ears, I determined it was indeed coming from the AIO fans. Can't quite make out which one. I made sure the fan mounting screws on the top of the case were tight but did not dismount it or anything like that. I pressed on various parts of the fans and that's when I discovered the second noise…
I also checked to see if the screws attaching the AIO to the CPU were tight, and they were. I happened to gently press on the center of the pump and immediately noticed the absence of a constant, very high-pitched whine. I hadn't noticed it because I was focused on the lower-pitched and louder humming.
So, it's making 2 noises:
1) a periodic, loud humming
2) a constant, slightly quieter high pitched whine.
Of the 2, the 1st is really annoying and I don't think I can live with it. It appears to be resonance-based due to the case vibration, but it's not internal-case air-pressure related because it still occurs with the case off.
Any troubleshooting steps I can take without voiding any warranties? Or should I just bring the PC in for service?
Thanks in advance, and Happy Friday!

So long as you don't damage the system, the warranty is valid. Do you have the Lian Li or Cooler Master AIO?

The Lian Li

Just to clarify, the main issue is that the AIO cover vibrates and creates the high pitched whine, correct?
The low humming you described is purely from the AIO fans?
-
Yes the fans are producing a periodic humming - it's quite loud as I sit here typing. It seems resonance-related as it seems to appear and disappear at certain fan speeds.
Edited to add - the main issue is from the fans. the AIO pump cover whine is a secondary concern. -
Option here would be to adjust the fan curves. If it's still not satisfactory we can replace the AIO under warranty.

Thanks - I live close to a store so I brought it in Saturday. It’s currently on a technician’s workbench according to texts. I’ll post back with the resolution later.

The tech was unable to sufficiently hear the noise, which was disappointing. I did hear it one time while it was plugged in at the store but the tech missed it then. the ambient noise in the store is not the best place to hear issues. I don't necessarily blame the tech here, but it seemed the most expedient and best result would have been to swap out the AIO. The tech said that might be more expensive than dealing with an open-box return….?
So, as I was within the initial return window, I swapped it out with another G913. Brought it home and it was quieter. laid it flat to install 2 m.2 drives and took off the back panel to install 2 SSDs…………….and now the new Coolermaster AIO is making a scary noise coming from the pump. It sounds like a rattling of bearings or as if the pump fan is hitting something.
After googling, I founds some info that it might be due to air bubbles, so I tilted the machine 45 degrees on its edge so the hoses went nearly straight up for a couple hours. I also tapped the pump cover and hoses to hopefully help any bubbles free themselves up. after no improvement, I turned off the machine for a couple more hours. On reboot, with it siting in its normal position, it seemed the issue had resolved itself, until it came back.
After all that I turned it off overnight and will be checking things again when I get home after work.
Really sounds like the pump bearings or fan are faulty. I don't want to risk it seizing and melting my CPU.
At this point it seems like I'm going to have to take it back. I feel like a nightmare customer but it is a lot of $$$ to risk issues down the road with something that seems initially faulty. -
Air bubbles should work themselves out in short order. Are you comfortable replacing the pump yourself?
-
Yes I am - I’ve not done it before, but have watched YT vids and it doesn’t seem hard. Is there a way to get a replacement part?

Hi Mike - Could I please get an answer to this today? I need to decide if I should take the computer back to the store or not.
-
We should have the store swap it out just to be safe. Bring it back in and we'll work with service to get the problem resolved.

I brought it in Friday and they just swapped out the entire PC. On the new PC, for whatever reason, the default fan settings were blasting pretty fast and loud at idle, but I was able to adjust the curves in the bios to get it quiet and temp-stable. So far so good on PC #3!
Thanks for the advice and replies, Mike!
