I have a Dell inspiron 3650 desktop and when I insert a cd into the optical drive it ejects it

I insert a cd  and again after a few seconds it ejects it out again and again says insert a cd. I just dont get what the issue is. is there a way to fix it?

We'll be happy provide some advise on this issue for you. To verify does the disc eject after a few seconds by itself or does it eject after you try to open it in file explorer? If it's the former, it's likely a defective ODD. I wouldn't replace the slimline drives on the 3650. I would just replace it with an external. 

If it's the latter, that it's ejecting when you open file explorer and try to open the drive, then it isn't enumerating the driver automatically. You can insert the drive and try to do this manually from Powershell with: Get-WMIObject -windowstyle hidden -Class Win32_CDROMDrive -Property * | Get-Member

To open Powershell, right click on the "Start" button, it'll be one of the options in your power user menu.
