how do I burn a music cd from windows 10 media player that will play on a cd player?

I have tried to burn the cd-r and it runs on my computer but will not play on a regular cd player what settings do I need to set it on for this to work?  I have tried mp3 and windows audio and neither work.

Well, what kind of files are you copying to the CD? If you're attempting to burn to a CD from MP3 files, you need to have a player that will recognize and play MP3s (there's a lot out there now that does that).

Greetings. On the burn tab within Windows Media Player, make sure the settings look like this before you set up your burn and see if this makes any change.

I burned a CD on an external DVD writer and it does not play on my CD player, but it plays on my laptop, because it was burned on a DVD Writer. So with that being true, I looked online for a plain old CD burner and can't find one.

Any ideas?

Two possibilities.

1. The CD player doesn't support the format.
2. CD had data burned to it but was not finalized. CD needs to be finalized or the session closed to be usable on other devices. Media player should do that automatically.
