Hello,
I have Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ISK (80nv system model) with DDR4-2133 4GB x2
I'm trying to chose what RAM to upgrade, I need it for CAD.
Crucial website says that I can have up to 32 GB of RAM with DDR4-2666 "guaranteed compatible".
The manual says that 16 GB is max. Also the manual (and the Lenovo website) only contains ram parts (as compatible) with DDR4-2133 and DDR4-2400.
Should I risk going DDR4-2666 16 GB and then later getting one more 16 GB?
Or should I just stick with DDR4-2400 (have not seen DDR4-2133 on the microcenter website) 8 GB x2?

  • Hello @Mishka
I would stick with what Lenovo recommends in the manual. Crucial might list Maximum Memory as 32 GB but they have a disclaimer below stating "*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory". So it may not actually work with 32 GB since Lenovo lists the maximum as 16 GB. As far as the speed goes, you can purchase the 2400 or even the 2666 speed but if your memory controller can only run at 2133 then it will downclock the speed of the RAM to 2133. You are welcome to install it or you can just purchase DDR4-2133 RAM to save a little bit of money.
