Office applications won't start.

I have a Surface Pro purchased in 2017 which has Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016. I am now unable to open any documents previously saved or anything new in Word, Excel or PowerPoint. I get an orange box that says "Updating Office, please wait a moment", followed by "The application was unable to start correctly (OxC000142)." "Click OK to close the app."
How do I fix this?

I have solved the issue. My computer needed a Windows update. Never mind.

I have the same issue, but the Windows update did NOT solve it!
