external back up device

I have a new computer I just bought at Micro Center. Its primarily for gaming. I have used all 500 GB of memory and bought a 2 TB external back up. How do I get it to work? I attached the USB and the devise and its not working. Plz help

You may need to format it first. If your computer is Windows 10, right-click your Start Button then go to "Disk Management."

Once you're in Disk Management, look through the bottom section for a disk that matches up with your external drive. If it prompts you to initialize the drive, initialize it, then right-click the unallocated space and select "new simple volume." It will walk you through the formatting process, and once that's done it should show up on your computer. You can open up File Explorer to check, it should show up on the left side under "This PC."
