Dual Monitor MacBook Air 2019

I went into a micro center store and told the sales rep that I wanted to setup a dual monitor setup to my MacBook Air. He advised that I take a dual hdmi to usb-c adapter, but it’s not working how I expected. Instead of being able to use each monitor individually, they just mirror themselves. What do I need to change this?

You'll need to change the arrangement to use extended displays instead of mirroring. Apple has a guide you can refer to on that process here:
