Greetings @Annie
First question here is if the system has standby power. Look for an LED that illuminates to show that the motherboad is receiving power. Try to power the system on, listen carefully to the power unit. Look for flashes of light. Look to see if the fan spins a quarter of a turn. Listen for audible clicks from the power supply. These are all clues.
If you don't hear or see anything and the motherboard doesn't seem to have power. Disconnect the power supply, unplug all the cables if it's modular, except for the 24 pin and try it this way. It'll come and hang with just the 24 pin, but at least we can troubleshoot from beyond that point. Let me know what you see or hear and we'll give you more advice. -
@TSMikeW
Thank you for getting back to me. No LED's at all, no sounds. I disconnected the 2 4pin and lo wft the 24 pin. Still nothing. -
@TSMikeW sorry for the autocorrect.. that should say and left the 24 pin
-
@Annie That would indicate the power supply is DOA. Do you have another one to test with available?
-
@TSMikeW
We dont but I will see if a neighbor has.. stay tuned 🙃 -
@TSMikeW
Noone has a power supply we could try 😔 -
@Annie A couple of options then. You can get a power supply tester or bring it in and we usually will have one at the service desk. You could also exchange it of course if it's been less than 30 days. The alternative test, it shorting the power supply on with a paper clip. There are a lot of guides online for doing this and if you're not comfortable I would bring it in the store.

@TSMikeW
I think since this is his first build we should just take it to microcenter. We purchased everything yesterday. Can I bring the whole system and walk in? Do you know if they will charge me? -
@Annie You certainly can bring it in. We will typically charge a $39.99 diagnostic fee, unless it's something very obvious. Then we'll call you and tell you what's wrong. We may charge an installation fee for the component that needs to be replaced.
-
@TSMikeW
Ok. I will head over to Westbury. Are you there? -
@Annie I am not, I work in our headquarters, but bring it over to service. We'll take care of you.

@TSMikeW
Thank you for your help. -
@TSMikeW
🤔 swapped power supply and still no power. Disappointed with service over there, they wouldn't even look at the machine. Told me to just swap the power supply and change it at home. They also said they dont check power. The store is over an hour away. Long trip to take for nothing.
So we are home and put in the new power supply, no LED's, no sounds, same as before. Where to now? -
@Annie
Sorry for the bad experience at the store. Are you able to upload a picture of your build? -
@TSMikeW
We took the whole thing apart figuring it was the motherboard. -
@TSMikeW
We can rebuild it but I dont have thermal paste -
@Annie
That's fine. Keep it simple to start. I'd put it back together on the cardboard box for the motherboard just to test it. Power supply, board with CPU, cooler and one stick of RAM. You'll need the GPU as well. Sit the case nearby to connect the power switch, or you can just short the power switch pins with something metal. I'd test it that way before you reassembled it in the chassis. -
@TSMikeW
Ok. I'll try it, should I connect both power supply connectors, 24pin and 8pin? -
@Annie
That works. Looks good. Can you close up the power switch pins to show either where the power switch wire is connected or which pins you're shorting? -
@Annie
You are doing everything correct. Remove the PCIe 8 pin and the CPU 8 pin. From the PSU as well if they're modular and try one more time. And again, no flickers, no sounds from the PSU, correct? -
@TSMikeW
I'll go try those suggestions. And yes still nothing as of the last test -
@TSMikeW
Disconnected and still nothing happened 🤔 -
@TSMikeW
Basically only thing connected is the 24pin PSU -
@Annie
Try to toggle the switch on the PSU off and on, and try it again. If there's no indication of power or a solenoid type 'click' we've ruled it out. Next component in line is the motherboard. -
@TSMikeW
No luck with that. Looks like I'm headed back to microcenter to swap the motherboard. -
@Annie
Let us know what happens. We've ruled out everything else at this point. -
@TSMikeW
I am going to swap the motherboard.
Since it's a long way to keep going back and forth is there anything else you think I should change that could cause this no power issue? or should this be the final run? I'd love to see this up an running my son (also a Mike) has been pretty bummed out. -
@Annie
Just the board at this point. For power the only components that should matter are the board, power supply and power button. You ruled out the power supply by swapping it and the button by shorting the board on.
