Good afternoon,
I am in the process of building my first gaming PC and could use a few pointers.
For my MOBO i have ASUS TUF GAMING B550M- PLUS (WIFI) but im not sure which cpu and gpu to pair with this.
Also i already have:
OLOy warhawk rgb 16GB (2 x 8GB)
Samsung 970 EVO M.2 2280 500GB
EVGA 700 BQ, 80+ BRONZE 700W
Any recommendations would be helpful thank you in advance.

Hey @Larsen44! Welcome to the community.I have a couple of questions for you. What's your budget for this build? The CPU and GPU typically are the more expensive parts of your computer, but they also bring the most benefit to its performance. What games are you planning to play and what resolution and FPS target do you want to hit?
-
Well for the whole build I wasn't trying to go over a $1000 but that's not going to happen. haha. But for these two parts im trying to stay around $700. I plan on playing first person shooters mostly and the highest I can get for resolution and FPS.
-
Just to confirm, there is a 700$ budget for both the CPU, Processer and Case? Do we need to add a monitor and peripherals onto the list?
-
No just the PCU AND CPU. i already have a case. I have the cool master td500.
-
Keeping under $700, I'd recommend the Ryzen 5 3600X and the EVGA RTX 2060 KOAnother GPU option would be the Radeon RX 5700 XTIf you're able to go a bit over budget, the next step up would be the RTX 2070 Super
-
thank you for those recommendations. I was already looking at the rtx 1070 super. Im trying to get this computer pretty decked out with RGB. So do you think it would be a good idea to go with the Ryzen 7 since it comes with the wraith prism cooler? or get the ryzen 5 and just get a aftermarket cooler?
-
I was thinking
CPU- Ryzen 7 2700x
GPU- GIGABYTE GeForce RTS 2070 super -
The 3700X is a fantastic option and the Wraith Prism cooler looks great. Especially the RGB. The only concern I might have is that if you chose the 2700x there is potential for greater bottleneck in the future, should you decide to upgrade your GPU. I think you've got the right idea though. Finding a balance to give yourself the most GPU performance while not sacrificing too much on the CPU. The 2700X and the 2070 Super are a great pairing but you will see a frame drop from the 3600X. Contrasting this, you can expect a similar performance increase if you step up to the 3700X.Here's a video I found as an example. It doesn't appear to be a highly detailed benchmark, but you can see a rough estimate of the difference in performance.
-
After looking more into the 2700x i see that is a 2nd gen. See that i think i might have to go to 3700x.
-
This build is turning into a pretty penny!
-
I think it's quite possible that the pricing on the 2070 Super will change with the release of the 3070. Also with the upcoming release from AMD, I think you'll see some great price changes there too. If you're able to, I'd wait to see how things sort out. You might find some amazing deals. 😊
-
Ive been buying these things part by part. so my next purchase i think i will be the ryzen 7 3700x.
-
Gotcha. AMD has an upcoming announcement about the new Zen 3 processors. That announcement is set for October 8th.Personally, I love the 3700X. It's been my daily driver for quite a while now and it's a great performer.
-
Oh okay good to know. I was going to buy the CPU this weekend but maybe ill wait for the announcement. Any idea what its about? Just releasing new processors soon?
-
Yeah, AMD is slated to announce the new processors on the 8th and then on the 28th, they are announcing the new GPUs. Or so the rumors say. 😊 Here's a recent article on the rumors. https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-ryzen-5000-zen-3-release-date-specs-performance/
