With powerspec 1530, cannot enable intel optane storage

Just bought the laptop today, and from bios if I enable intel optane, I am told that it cannot boot properly on a blue screen of death as there is no connected hard drive. I then downloaded the RST tray and had it update, made sure I ran windows 10 update, and had the intel driver support tool state that everything is up to date. The RST tool tells me that the SSD within this computer doesn't support optane (western digital appears to state it does), and I still get the same issue if selecting the intel optane option in bios. How can I proceed so that it is enabled?
