Need Help Choosing Parts - Partnering with my 12 yr old on his first build

My son is hoping to build his first gaming PC over the upcoming holiday break. He is paying for the parts himself, and his budget fluctuates between $1000-1200. Initially his primary interest is in playing Minecraft, but he also enjoys editing videos and photos. I'm just starting to learn about all of this, playing a bit of catch up. My son put together this list of components based on talking with his peers and reading online. I do not have depth of knowledge on this subject to know whether he has chosen well for his needs. It's a significant investment for anyone, let alone a 12 yr old, so I want to ensure he is building something that will have some staying power selecting components within his budget. I appreciate any thoughts or advice you may be willing to share as he and I navigate his first build together.

OK, I tweaked this build a bit, upgraded the graphics card and removed the windows thing cuz u can get it for a lot cheaper. Also changed the ssd to a sata one cuz you wont see a speed difference.

That's a pretty solid build. He did well. He even chose a gold-rated power supply from a reputable manufacturer with plenty of headroom for future growth. Most people want to cheap out on that, but it's money well spent to do that right the first time. The airflow in that case is pretty dreadful though, and he hasn't spec'd any additional fans. It only comes with a couple of mediocre 3 pin fans.
