Purchase 11/12 (during holiday return policy) - denied??

I purchased an i7-9700K and Z390-A PRIME motherboard on 11/12 for myself at the Tustin CA Micro Center, and was almost certainly told that there was a holiday return policy in effect. I actually was gifted a i9-10850K and Z490-A PRIME motherboard for Christmas, so I was very happy with that and took the parts out to return my old stuff. However, on 12/23 I went to return it, I was told that there is no Holiday return policy, and I had to spend $40 (which was my warranty that I paid for) to return my CPU and motherboard, and was only given store credit, minus $40. Now, reading here, I see that the Holiday return policy started on 11/2? Was I tricked by the store rep???

"Special Holiday return period!

As part of our early start to Black Friday deals, we have also extended the return period for products purchased during that time.

• All products purchased between 11/02/20 - 12/24/20 will be eligible for return until 1/15/21
• This also extends the time-frame to add a protection plan until 1/15/21
• Restrictions for products not eligible for return still apply (see section below)
• Exception: Microsoft has imposed a strict 15 day return policy on all Microsoft Surface tablets and laptops. This also applies to unopened units."
