Ryzen 5 5600x & b550 BIOS

I bought a ryzen 5 5600x and I am planning on getting a msi b-550 a pro. Will I need to do a BIOS update?

@TSTDavey sorry to bother you but I was wondering if I would also need to bring in the cpu, I saw some videos on YouTube were they updated the bios without a cpu

You're going to need to be at least on 7C56vA3. But you should be at least on 7C56VA4. I would stick to A4, don't install the beta with the AGESA 1.1.9.0 firmware. You don't need to bring it in, this board will flash without being powered on, doesn't even need a CPU or RAM installed: https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/E7C56v2.1.pdf

@TSMikew so what bios do you think would come with it, and if I install the same bios that is already on the board could i brick it? Sorry for all the questions I’m new to diy pc’s

Hard to say, but with the MSI board it doesn't really matter. That board has a flashback system, where you can flash without a CPU or RAM installed. As for flashing the BIOS over itself, there's no greater chance of that bricking it than any other BIOS update. It's just overwriting the existing data on the EEPROM.
