Hello @Edd1030What kind of computer are we starting with? What are your system specs?I'd be happy to help!
-
@LandShark
Right now it isprocessor: Intel i5-4440
Ram: 4.00GB
motherboard: DX4885
Please let me know if you need any more information. -
Is this a custom build or a pre-built?What are you looking to do with this system?Based on the processor, I'd say you're looking for DDR3 memory. If you can provide a model number, I'd be happy to recommend a specific speed.

It is pre-built purchased it around 2013 from someone I know.
I am looking to upgrade its performance as sometimes I use photoshop and it can only handle small project. Any bigger and my computer said not enough ram. And just in general it take a while to load up and be able to use. This also applies to when it wakes up from sleep mode it takes a while and sometimes I have to turn it off completely and turn it on again as it won't respond. So after looking up a few things I am 50 % sure that it is time for a upgrade. But I'm not 100% sure as this is new territory for me so I'm trying to get some help. Sorry for the long response. -
@ LandShark
Model is Gateway DX4885

Sure, well, if you're looking to upgrade the RAM, I'd recommend starting here.I'd recommend at least 8GB, but 16GB is the normal recommended amount.Adding RAM is fairly easy, but we also offer the service in our service department. If you're looking to upgrade to a newer system, I'd recommend stopping by our store to speak with an associate in our Systems department. However, we do have a wide selection of PC's available and I'd be happy to discuss availability with you if you let me know what store you would be shopping in and what budget you had in mind.

Couldn't I just upgrade the motherboard and processor to a I7 so instead of DDR3 I use DDR4. Wouldn't make it faster?
-
Yes, you would be able to upgrade the motherboard and processor, however, you may need to upgrade the PSU as well in this case. Again, if you're able to share the store that you shop in and a budget that you had in mind, I'd be able to offer recommendations for the upgrades for you.
-
I don't have a budget anything is up for consideration just as this is a pc I use for work purposes I don't want to do a overkill.
-
Okay!If you're upgrading only the RAM, I'd recommend this https://www.microcenter.com/product/509757/neo-forza-encke-16gb-(2-x-8gb)-ddr3-1600-pc3-12800-cl11-dual-channel-desktop-memory-kit-nmud380d8116cc2---goldIf you plan to upgrade your system with a new build, I'd recommend this: https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=b1680019-509d-455b-bc5d-7cf05cbebc92I hope this helps!

I noticed that you included a case. Can't I use my current case?
-
Most pre-built PCs from OEMs like Gateway, E-machine, Compaq, etc. have custom-made motherboards and cases that are not completely compatible with the rest. It may be possible to use it with a new motherboard, however, we don't know what form factor the case accepts.Motherboards come in many different form factors. ATX, eATX, microATX, Mini-ITX, and some other lesser form factors.
-
Ok got it also wouldn't I also need some fans?
-
Cases typically come with fans. This case has one in front and one in the rear. The CPU also comes with a CPU cooler.
-
Would I also need to get thermal paste?
-
Also how do I know if my pc has a graphics card?
And I also noticed that the motherboard you recommended is sold out from my nearest Micro store -
