My son is having issues with his gaming PC -- he says he has allocated his hard drive, but he can't download games onto it. He is only able to use his SSD, and now it is maxed out. How can we get his hard drive into the game? :)
Hello @DaveRhizome_76 and thanks for posting on the Microcenter Community Forum. What is the make and model of the computer and is it a laptop or desktop? Also does it have 2ndary drive separate from the SSD? If so, the games would need to be downloaded and installed on the 2ndary drive and not the SSD.
Thanks! It's a desktop gaming PC with a secondary hard drive. When my son tries to download games, the secondary hard drive doesn't even show up as an option to download games onto. Thanks again for any guidance you can provide!
Does the hard drive show up when looking in the file explorer or does it just list the SSD?
Also, what are you using to download the games?
No, the hard drive does not show up when looking in the file explorer. My son has used Steam and other mainstream services to download games. Thanks for your questions and trying to help us! Dave
It sounds like the drive has not yet been allocated.
I'd recommend adding a new simple volume.

The next step would be to add a new Steam Library.

Please let me know if this helps!
Thanks very much for these suggestions. My son did allocate the hard drive but it is still not showing up. This may be an easy fix but it's pretty overwhelming as he tries to navigate it as someone without much background/experience in PCs. And I am not much help either. Is there a helpline or some way that someone could walk us through some steps to diagnose what's going on?
thanks,
Dave
