I have a desktop that's about 8-10 yrs old. I inherited the above GPU from my son. Would it be worthwhile to build a new system around the above? I'm not a heavy gamer although I enjoy Civilization, Topico, and other similar games. I'm interested in art, video, and audio production, but again, not super high end. I've done a parts selection based on AMD 5950x, but think that might be over-kill. Budget is 2k, which I think should be plenty if I use this GPU. I also have a 500w PSU and a 1TB HD that I could reuse.
Hello @wolfej50. The GPU which you inherited from your son would work depending on the software that you use for editing. What software did you plan to use for editing, art and audio production?
I currently have the Corel suite, but am open to other (low cost) options.
@wolfej50 You will be fine using the software and hardware you currently have. No need to fix what isn't broken. I would keep everything the same for now unless you plan to upgrade to more quality hardware or software in the future.
Well, there is this:
So, I'm still interested in building a new system using salvaged components if possible.
If you would like to build around the 5950x and no new video card, I would look at the following:
