what should I do?
I will be attending college beginning this year, and a bunch of people have told me to build my own computer for college. My question is should I build a desktop that will serve multiple purposes such as running the applications that I will most likely be required to use for classes and gaming, and then just have a laptop to take to class and use for things like emails, essays...etc, or just go with the laptop. Also I will already have a monitor to use for working on assignments.

It really comes down to how much you are looking to spend.
I always recommend a custom build PC if possible. Of course being a student you will need a laptop, which you can look into getting a good gaming laptop if you want. I just recommend desktops over this because they are more customizable. Plus if you build it yourself, you can get exactly the parts you want and save some money in the end compared to buying a pre-built with the same specs.
