We are moving into a larger house (2 story with a basement) that is about 2700 sq ft. I currently have a NetGear Nighthawk X6s router, which works fine for our 1700 sq ft 1 story house with a basement. I work from home and will have an office upstairs. I am currently wired directly to the router, which has worked great. I don't think this will be an option based on where the Xfinity cable comes into the house. I have thought about running an ethernet cable from the router to the upstairs, but not sure I'll be able to do that easily. I will also have a TV in the basement that we like to stream on and currently that's on a ethernet line as well. There's 4 of us and everyone has phones/tablets,so good coverage is important. I'm wondering if a mesh router is a better option or if I should consider using power line or maybe a combination. Totally open to other ideas. Just not sure what direction to go.
Which specific version of the X6s do you have currently? The r8000 version states it can cover up to 3500 sq. feet, but it will vary by specific model.

I'd test it first and see what you results are. If they're poor on the the top floor, then I'd run an ethernet cable or powerline adapter up there, and install a second router. Set this second router up in AP mode.
