logistics of custom PC build with out of stock GPU
Hi Folks,
My questions are about paying employees to build a custom PC at the Houston Micro Center. I want an Alder Lake CPU and the Nvidia RTX 3060 (needs 12GB RAM). But, it is unlikely the RTX 3060 will be in stock.
1) Can I get an Alder Lake PC built and add the GPU later?
2) If the GPU must be installed on a later date by Micro Center staff (not by me), is there be an additional charge?
3) Will I void the warranty if I add a GPU or secondary SSD myself?
4) What if Micro Center doesn't stock the case I want (Fractal Define 7)?
Thanks,
Justin

Greetings Justin,
1 - Yes, we do offer a build service at our service desk starting at $149.99. More information on our build services and pricing can be found on the service website directly: https://www.microcenter.com/site/service/instore-service-complete-build.aspx
If not all parts are in stock, they can build a PC without a video card. However, I would suggest to come into the store and speak with a BYO (build your own PC) associate at your local store regarding building with a video card. I have heard that some store locations will hold cards specifically for customer PC builds, but as our Community staff is not located in a specific store, we cannot guarantee this so I'd highly suggest to come and speak with a sales associate to see what options they may have for you.
2 - If you returned at a later date for additional service, additional service charges would apply. All base service pricing can be found on our website such as here for installation of a video card when not a part of a build: https://www.microcenter.com/product/609478/graphics-card-installation-service
3 - Which warranty are you referring to voiding? If it's a Micro Center warranty/assurance plan to cover the entire build, it only covers the parts when assembly occurs at our store. Later added parts would not be covered, but it wouldn't void the existing warranty.
4 - That item is not in our inventory as something we carry and we do not provide a special order service. You are welcome to bring in your own case and have them build in it if you'd like. Otherwise, you can see all the cases we currently carry online at https://www.microcenter.com/category/4294964318/desktop-cases?rd=1&vkw=Computer+case
