Transfer of DVD Digital Videos to Hard Drive

About 9 years ago, I transferred videos from VHS tapes to DVD-R.
This week I ave been transferring them from the DVD to a hard drive.
Many of them transferred but many did not and read disk error.
Who can help me with this? Either a company or an individual?

This is not a service we offer but we will offer any advice that we can. Sounds like you're getting CRC or cyclic redundancy check errors. When does this occur, and is it consistent at the time it occurs on each disc that has this problem? What software are you using to store the DVD's on your drive?

I have transferred many of the DVd's over but some begin transferring and after a time stop with many errors. The time is inconsistent on each disk. I am not using any software, just dragging the DVD drive over to the hard drive.
Do you know who I can contact to help me. I am willing to pay a outside company/person? -
I couldn't recommend a company off hand. I will mention one alternative that may work better for you. If you still have a DVD player and all the DVD's play fine, I would get a USB Video capture card for your PC. Basically you'll connect the presumably composite (RCA) video cables right into your PC via an adapter, then what you'll do is play the DVD and the PC will record and store it.

There is also software available to do this from the PC as well, if you no longer have a DVD player. The idea being that you're recording the playback and generating a file, which should ignore any CRC errors on the disc, so long as the video will play all the way through. -

The DVD does not play on a regular DVD - only on the computer DVD drive.

You can do this from your PC, by recording it. I'm not sure which player you use for DVD's, but VLC is free and has an option to convert the DVD over to a format like MP4 that you can save on your PC. There are plenty of guides online on how to do this. Just make sure you're using this only to backup your own DVD's for your own personal use.
